Hello there.
We made it to Colorado but I want to say that on our drive up we did something new for us and that was taking a chance and being even more adventurous.
We knew we had a few days to play with as we gave ourselves plenty of time to head from Arizona to Colorado and we already tipped our toes into the Casinos overnight waters which was a success!
But for the rest of the trip we figured it be Rest Stops or Truck Stops and then I saw this place on Campendium (which is an awesome app by the way if you RV!) about a nature preserve that is FCFS free camping, no hookups. It’s a beautiful area and only about 10 min west of I-25. We did have to drive 2 1/2 miles on a dirt road but other than a bit of washboarding it was a very good road.
So anyway, this place was awesome! Not only did Ron find a super level spot but we had a view of the lake. Lake 13 was its name and that will be another blog post 😉.
We spend two nights there. The first day and night was pure bliss of peace and quiet and I got nice walks in with the pups. Day two was good until 11 am when the wind started up. Thanks to two of my weather app notifications, clime and the apple weather app, we got warnings of high winds. Well let’s just say we were super glad we were NOT on the road. It was 30 mph to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. So day two we hunkered down and goodness night #2 was pretty scary at times as the wind would wake me up.
Then it was time to head northwards again and it was a workout as the high winds were still there and even thought Lucy is a beast at 17.5 tons it was still a workout muscling her through it. We made it to Fountain that day after a stop at Walmart in Trinidad CO, oh and after a quick stop at Freighliner due to a Transmission light bugging us. Well they couldn’t see a cause and are guessing it’s a wire issue…. Always some fun, right?
