One temptation in blogging is that I love talking about all the adventures and beautiful scenery we encounter on our trips.
However, I so want to give a true picture of what life on the road really looks like in the good, the bad and the ugly.
Since we started out in March and we are now at the end of September that encompasses 7 months of being on the road. I counted that we stayed in 47 different places, from campgrounds, to RV Resorts, to State Parks, COE’s (Corps of Engineer), Boondocking, Harvest Hosts, Rest Stops and Truckstops. We truly slept in many different places but lucky us always in our own beds 😉
There have been places we stayed I admittedly never want to return to. Some were just overnight spots so it wasn’t to big a deal but last month we stayed at a campground that was pretty awful and we had booked a week so we stuck it out but goodness my heart went out to those who actually called this RV Park ‘home’. It had many permanent residents and it was a tad like a run down trailer park. The people I met and talked to seemed all pretty nice but in truth one never saw or interacted with others much as everyone seemed to hole up inside their trailers. It is hard to put into words why this park was so disturbing but it seemed dark, it had three ponds that looked dirty and were smelly. Both Ron and I didn’t sleep good all week and had bad nightmares. We could not wait to move out but ironically two days before our week was up we got neighbors who were very nice and outgoing.
Here is what I learned from this experience. We have the luxury of moving on but what about those who live like this every day? I can’t imagine how hard it would be to lift someone’s mood when this is the place one calls home.
So yes, I was thrilled when our travel day came up and as to the nice neighbors we met at the end of our stay? We told them we will be happy to meet up with them again someday in Arizona as that is where they were from.
