Since we left San Antonio on December 24, 2022 we have been smack next to the border of Mexico at each location we stayed at. First at Casa Blanca State Park which was a couple of miles away, then on to Falcon Park which is right on the border as it shares Falcon Lake with Mexico, and now we are at Lajitas, TX at the Maverick Ranch Park and here we could literally walk/cross the Rio Grande into Mexico. In some sections the River is only a few feet wide and the only thing that is suppose to stop someone from stepping over is a sign that reads ‘$8000.00’ fine if crossing illegally’. This however did not stop a puppy from crossing which I was told from fellow campers. Their dog jumped across and back with out any need of a passport 😂
Now my husband and me have been considering crossing in one of the border towns as we have been told that great groceries, food and ice cream can be found across. Some even go for mani and pedicures and of course medications.
However, we got to talk to a Border Patrol Agent in Roma who told us to not cross. He asked if we watched the news and if we realized that there was a war going on over there. Well to be honest we have been hearing gun shots across the border when we were in Roma as well as El Paso. But here in Lajitas it is very calm and quiet. I am guessing this is also due to the miles and miles of desert in each direction.
So we are warming up to heading over as I would love to see it all and of course eat some yummy food. My husband just has to find his passport card. Minor detail……
