New York - Seneca Mills Falls, Finger Lake Region

I loved that I had time to get an itty bitty hike, well walk in yesterday while we stopped for the night. Our hosts told us about a waterfall and beautiful7 mile bike trail. Sadly I wasn’t able to take the bike but I was able to drive to the trailhead and walk a bit.

Seneca Mills Falls is a 40 foot three-part waterfall from the spillway onto two layers of Tulley limestone and into the pool below.the waterfall is surrounded by ruins of a stone foundation that mark the former Seneca Paper Mill that was build there in 1884. It is also the site where the first mill on the outlet was build in 1790, as well as Lock 17, the best preserved lock from the Crooked Lake Canal.

The Falls were beautiful. I found out this morning after talking to our Host Mike that he build the metal railing that supports the viewing deck above the falls. He is a retired welder and is helping Ron right now as we speak build a battery box for our trailer.
