Maine ❤️ Bangor, ❤️ Pleasant Hill Campground

Maine ❤️ Bangor, ❤️ Pleasant Hill Campground

Bangor, Maine was actually not on our radar initially but then Ron mentioned that it is an ‘alternate’ landing site for planes and he was looking forward to seeing it since he never had to divert there. In my case we would have to head to Goosebay, Canada as I did land there on Lufthansa once from FRA to DEN.

Well I can confidently say it did not disappoint! The campground was beautiful and had a large pull thru for us with trees. It had a pool but we did not use it. It was however located at the end of the airport so we enjoyed planes flying above us.

I was thrilled to be able to take the Stephen King Tour. Bangor Maine is part of his inspiration for many of his books since he and Tabitha lived there when he wrote ‘Carrie’ which of course followed by many other books that have landmarks there. From IT to Thinner, Pet Cemetery and on and on. Derry is Bangor in so many ways!

The tour was Hauntingly Beautiful 🧙‍♀️and my favorite stop was, of course, at Mount Hope Cemetery.

I am in awe of how incredible Stephen King and Tabitha King are. To see the incredible foundation they run and how much they do for those in need. In Bangor alone they supported small bookstores when Barnes & Noble moved in. They saved the library, helped build an incredible children hospital wing. They pushed to have the first Ronald McDonald House placed in Bangor to help families to have a place to stay when their kids where at the hospital due to the poverty and long distance travels from northern Maine. They build a community water park/pool where the entrance fee is often just $1 for kids. They support the theater, own an independent Rock and Roll Radio Station and on and on. Their principal is if you raise money they match it. They are a such a gift to this community but truly to humanity.

Next, Ron and I did a sightseeing tour by ourselves and we finished it with a nice walk along the Penobscot River. We even saw the tallest Paul Bunyon Statue.

And then, thanks to the AllTrails App I found a most wonderful hike. The Orono Bog Boardwalk, located in the Bangor City Forest. I had to take that walk on my own as no dogs are allowed on the boardwalk. Then there was this pink paper with a warning that recent bear 🐻 activity has been noticed on the boardwalk. Well the trail is only a few weeks wide and bog/water to the left and right so I admit I was a tad anxious. Humming and singing helped a tad 😉 However I became very relaxed once the walk left the forest and opened up the view. If you find yourself in Bangor, I highly recommend this hike, plus the SK Tour.

Now it did rain a lot while we were there. Our site was elevated but some areas in the campground got pretty muddy. Even the little creek got quiet active. This is when we realized we had a leak on Ron’s side of the bedroom. Ron found the area and we temporary sealed it but it became a pretty tough project for Ron once we arrived at our next location which is Calais, Maine.
