Maine ❤️ Eastport - Middle Age Antics

Maine ❤️ Eastport - Middle Age Antics

Yesterday I chose to go on a bike ride to Estes Point. A point I was unable to locate as my GPS took me straight into a Harbor ship Yard that had lots of warnings as in ‘No Tresspassing’ and ‘No Unauthorized Access’. Well, I admit I did try to get in and was able to sneak around some blockades to get closer to what my GPS was saying but I still felt I was off the mark. So I retreated and aimed my bike towards Shackfort Head State Park.

I knew I wanted to hike there eventually and figured it be good to check out the trail head. Once I arrived I opened up my Alltrails App and after a quick glance I chose to just go and take the hike now. Lucky me had my little backpack with me holding my essentialsas in wallet, phone, Kleenex plus water and gummie bears. One never knows.… 😉

What I skipped to notice was that it was not listed as an easy hike! Moderate was more like it I later read. I am very challenged when it comes to directions and figuring trails when they split or veer off. Never less, I went on the trail and I emerged from the forest an hour and a half later, bruised, exhausted, sweaty and absolutely thrilled and proud that I did it. The trails were challenging, narrow, through boggy water at times, fire ants everywhere, climbing Rocks, losing trails but oh the thrill when I found a blue mark again in a tree or rock. There wasn't another soul out there except me, birds, mosquitos and fire ants of course. I figure there were lots more animals watching this crazy woman running through their habitats.

Well, all I can say is that the views were worth every single step! Stunning really and to feel and smell the ocean and the forest was just beautiful.

One day my impulsivity might get me in trouble. I went on this hike completely unprepared. My hiking backpack was at the Campground. So no real supplies as in first aid, bug spray, more water and snacks. Binoculars, my Campro etc etc.

I never saw another human soul while I was out there. Most hiking I have done so far in Maine has been very isolated with hardly any human traffic. I saw someone had been there recently as a shoe print was visible in one if the muddy bogs. On this thought I was missing my good hiking shoes as well. I slipped a few times as the walking shoes I had on did not supply enough grip.

So tell my lovely friends and family, what impulsive actions are you dealing with? Is it getting more challenging because we are getting older and our bodies are not in sync, like our joints and brain? 😉

A lot more to explore out there and I guess I just need to make sure my supplies I take with me support my impulsiveness.
