Maine ❤️ Keenes Lake Family Campgrounds and Cabins
In the seven days at this Campground we experienced true bliss and relaxation, except the work Ron had to put in on the awning.
We finished some chores for sure but we also got to relax and enjoy the serene place we were in. The owner and her son have been trying to keep this campground going now for the last 18 months. Eighteen months ago her husband passed and with that heart break came of course also the struggles to hold on. Running a campground is a lot of work and having just two people.e carrying that weight is hard.
Many of their visitors are from Canada and are seasonal and I admit I will be curious as to what will happen once it sells.
The owner did tell me that they are selling but had not listed it yet. Just by word of mouth, the weekend we were there, someone from California stopped by and said he knows of two interested parties.
I admit I am happy for her to be able to slow down and retire. And it will be interesting to see what the future will hold for this slice of heaven in northeastern Maine.
As to play I got to ride my bike and even kayak on Keenes Lake and of course, I picked a windy day to ‘relax’ on the lake. I tried to get pictures of a lilypad flower but I couldn't keep my kayak in one place. After paddling around the two islands I was beat and I was thrilled to see a buoy and I made my way to it. I couldn't figure out how-to hold on so when realizing it had slack I pulled the whole thing into the kayak. Finally I could sit back and relax……..
Until I saw little sailboats coming towards me. At first I thought ‘oh this will be fun to watch’ and then I heard a voice “where is the yellow buoy?” oooppsss.
I quickly dropped it back in the water and paddled away 😂
I met several very nice people there, especially one young family with two kids. The kids loved on the pups and were just so friendly and polite.
I met a Canadian woman who told me they have a house in Florida and one in Canada but go back and forth in their camper. They use Keenes Lake Family Campground for years as a stopping point between their trips. With her I had to laugh when she told me she got sick once in Florida and rushed home to Canada as she wasnt going to use a clinic down there 😉😂
