Maine ❤️ Bar Island Sanbar Trail
This most beautiful hike was all about planning. I had to plan according to low tide so I could walk the sandbar to the island, plus get in the sunrise which today happened at 5:57 am. It paid off!
I got up at 5 am so I could walk the pups before heading out at 5:30. Bar Harbor offers free parking until noon and I was the only car to park near the trail head. By the time I got to the sandbar I saw only 5 other people there to watch the sunrise. It was spectacular. I wore my rubber boots so I could venture out to play in the tide pools and look for crabs 🦀 and other sea critters and I found a starfish.
I then went on the island and spend a good hour hiking on it. Except for a jogger/runner I was on my own. Peaceful and quiet. I do like to aim towards trails less traveled so I took a right turn aiming to follow the ridge. I was so focused on watching my steps as rubber boots make bad hiking shoes substitutes. I saw a movement in front of me and almost ran into one of two deer 🦌. I literally stepped back and watched them as I preferred not getting kicked but they were sweet and calm. So lucky me got a video and photo.
Next I came up to some ruins before joining the main trail again. By the time I made it back to the shore of the island the sandbar was crowded with people which means my timing was spot on as I don't like it when it gets to peopley.
I highly recommend this hike if you find yourself in the area. However if you don't like to hike then I admit the hotel right by the start of the sandbar would be the place to be to watch it all from the deck or balcony. Looked like they had a heated pool as well.
As to me, I was home in time for the Formula One Pre-Show. Ron and I had our traditional Sunday breakfast of Soft boiled eggs with bacon, plus pancakes with Maple Syrup while watching a nail-biting race. Glad Ferrari got a podium with Carlos, 3rd but a podium never less.
