Trail Angels? We have Campground Angels
Back, about 15 years back I dreamt of hiking the El Camino de Santiago or Appalachian Trail. I hiked a lot and inhaled books on the subject. My sister Carmen and I dreamt of doing the El Camino de Santiago together. My excuse of not doing it? Well life I guess, being married with 4 year old twin boys at home. Admittedly this is one of the regrets I have as time is not your friend. Once you feel you have the time and resources other responsibilities and handicaps pop up. Mostly health related as my sister fighting cancer and my husbands health declining. Not to mention my body getting older and not being in the shape it used to be and realizing my limitations. This part I can control and I am making progress in getting more active again.
Anyway, those who are familiar with these long distance hikes heard most likely the term ‘Trail Angels’. People that leave food and supplies at intersections, on trails or trail heads. These are highly appreciated and bring lots of joy.
We found that Campers have a similar idea on paying in forward. Since we started out we have been gifted many things by fellow travelers. We received anything from treats, recreational supplies, Maple Syrup, books, and lots of firewood. At this point a quarter of the trailer is full of firewood and we donated twice as much by now as we couldn’t possible keep all the wood we received.
We learned quickly how much fun it is to be the Camper Angel. I now got back into baking but also making chocolate treats, marzipan to be exact. We gifted several camping supplies we realized we didn’t use. I can often be found now looking through Lucy or Lou looking to see what we can gift.
The greatest gift of it all in regards to Camper Angels is the friendships that follow suit. Kindness connects us all and I now try to connect more again, even thought I still have my days I need solitude to recharge and taking solo hikes is my go to.
