Colorado - No Rest with Transwest….

One downside not mentioned yet much by me but which is mentioned a lot by other RV owners we meet or see on FB is that service for Motorhomes or Travel Trailers / 5th Wheels is just plain bad. We are not having any luck with reaching out for services when it comes to repairing or figuring things out with Lucy. The most help one gets is from other owners, FB or YouTube.

Since the one place that sells and works on Renegades in Colorado is Transwest we are kind of stuck with them for now. The issue isn’t that the people we talk to that work there are not friendly, but the truth is it’s all just talk but nothing gets done.

So far we had the sensors replaced in the tanks and a job that was to take 1 to 2 days took 3 full days only to be told that those ‘sensors’ don’t really work well anyway. Then they ordered a new awning which finally arrived last week. We took Lucy back to Transwest in Fountain to get it installed. We dropped her off at 10 am for a 3 to 4 hour job. At 12:30 we got a call that it was the wrong awning as they took the wrong measurements and that they have to order another one. So off we went to pick up Lucy only to do this again in a few weeks.

We also took a side trip to the Transwest outfit up north in Parker, CO after we left Longmont. There we asked if we could schedule a run through for Lucy but they told us to ask the other Transwest in the south as they are booked out for 2 to 3 months to even look at her.

Now one would think this is due to our Lucy not being ‘new’ but far off. We met owners of new setups and their laundry list of warranty work that needs to be done is long and they are not being taken care off either. So yes I am guessing they are busy which is good for them but then the work they do is not on the mark and who is to blame for that?

So my advice is that if you jump into this lifestyle learn how to fix things and then be willing to travel to places that might be more service oriented with a good work ethic. Transwest would not be on our go to list. We heard there is a business in Texas that other Renegade owners take their Motorhome to. I am guessing we will be heading that way for future issues. Of course another route some fellow travelers are taking is them getting certified RV Technicians. I love seeing those conversations as people are becoming pro active. We might be a tad to old for that however youtube university is still pretty good in teaching us a thing or two…..

It all is a learning curve but as Ron and I talked about, anything you own comes with challenges and the good out weights the bad for us in every way.
