Louisiana- Margaritaville Casino, Bossier City

We decided to boondock on our way to TX at a Casino as we hadn’t done this since we traveled through New Mexico.

I located this Casino in Bossier City through Campendium and the reviews looked great. And, they were correct!

This stop over for the night couldn’t have been better. A very large parking lot, so we could line up Lucy Lou in a way to get the bedroom and kitchen slide out. We ran the generator for a couple of hours but turned it off when we went to bed. The Casino was beautiful and next to it was a Bass Pro Shop, plus a pedestrian Boardwalk with several stores and restaurants by the Red River.

The benefits of spending a night by a casino is that security is usually very good and one feels safe. We ended up being three Motorhomes parking close to each other which I thought was cute as we could have all spread out but it feels nice being in a group. Oh and since we turned off the generator at bed time I was happy to see the batteries read 77% when I got up in the morning. She still got it in her as it’s been a while since we boondocked.

Yesterday was also my Mom’s 90th Birthday, well it would have been if she was still alive. I felt very sad all day and melancholic so Ron spoiled me and we went on a celebratory dinner at the casino which had a nice seafood restaurant. I ordered Crawfish Étouffèe (which was incredibly) and Ron had a Cheeseburger which was equally amazing. My mom loved seafood and would have enjoyed the menu and how I wish she could have experienced traveling in Lucy Lou with us. I know she would have loved it as traveling and camping was in her blood as much as it is in mine.

Louisiana- River View RV Park, Vidalia

We got to spend just one night at the River View RV Park in Louisiana on the Mississippi, right across the state of Mississippi and it was WONDERFUL ♥️

We both feel in love with this RV park which at just $45 a night with full hookups was stunning. To park right next to the River with lots of grass and walking trails plus a large dog run translates for us into perfection. Nature and quiet.

So we both agreed we want to return someday and spend a week if not a month here. A perfect place to slow down and enjoy the scenery plus some history as Natchez MS was just across the bridge.

Oh and we realized that some of Ron’s friends live just 90 miles from there in Mississippi so a return is absolutely guaranteed as long as we are able to keep traveling.

LA to TX… Cursed Or Just Bad Luck?

Today we drove from Bossier City, LA to a campground on Lake Lewisville in TX. A what we thought be an easy 3 hour drive turned into a 7 hour ordeal. I tell you all this time, even prior to today I felt this trip to Texas was cursed or God wanted us to no head this way…. Not sure what but every obstacle we could think of popped up.

It started with us not being able to find a campground, we looked for several weeks and we struck out over and over. Then we finally found one that had an opening but it came with a steep price.

But I beyond wanted to see a beloved friend that is only in this country for a short visit and I didn’t want to miss seeing them.

Now the drive started out in rain once we left the Casino parking lot and that’s when  it started getting sad on I-20. We saw up to 6 accidents. Many cars in ditches and one even over turned. Now I felt Rosalina Aqua-planning several times and I was wondering if that was that cause for some of the incidents. To know to never step on breaks but to glide through is a must but not always the reaction people have.

We stopped at a small rest stop for lunch and that’s when our first hiccup happened. The door into and out of Lucy would not unlock. The dead bolt was jammed closed and our 30 min stop turned into 1 1/2 hours with still no way to use that door. Now Ron and I can use the cockpit doors, and Oliver is small enough to carry but Keetna had absolutely no way to get out! We decided to push on so we could arrive and Ron could get working on it with some more heavy tools.

Well if only that had been it but no. We were slowed down a lot more by traffic (I mean who really is all out and about on Christmas Eve???). Well kidding aside we finally made it and there it became more tricky. We received bad instruction on where to drop Lou so we ended up back tracking and once we found the lot to unhook quick and get to our site 47. We arrive and we tried to line up Lucy with the hookups. This made us miscalculate the concrete bump in the back with ended up being a bad position for our stabilizers. One of our snap pads, including the original pads broke off. The site was so steep that the front tires came off the ground by a foot.

By then my nerves were pretty shut and I called the office asking for another spot. Well they said none were available even thought I was looking at an almost empty campground. She said she will call me back. While I was trying to get us a new spot Ron was busy working on the door and poor Keetna still had no potty break for almost 7 hours!

Well, she finally called me back and we got a new site (43), still sloped but not as steep. Now the roads in the Park were potholed and not fun to navigate which I could stomach but not for the price we are paying…. -plus of course I was getting pretty grouchy by then.

My husband came through on the door after we parked, tried to level and got the slides out. Our door works now to open and close at least which was the greatest relief to us as Keetna was finally, after 7 1/2 hours able to go outside. Darn how lucky are we that he has such a strong bladder? Poor babe.

Then came hicup number three. Our new site is nestled into trees and that translates into our Starlink being obstructed and we are without our satellite internet for the week.

We had our 3 pm coffee and cake at 6 pm, and finally a dinner of cheese and crackers and some leftovers at 7 pm. We are tired but also know while it was a frustrating day it was worse for all those cars we passed that had crashed today.

We are here and in a couple of days I will see my friends, possibly some family and all will be good. I hope!

Frohe Weihnachten 🎄 and a happy Christmas Eve.

Florida - Sarasota and Sun Outdoors

The Sun Outdoors Resort in Florida was a place we have never experienced before. A true Resort that offered more than one could possibly participate in. There was Tennis, Pickle Ball, Lawn Bowling, Boca, miniature golf, Shuffle Board, Frisbee Golf, outoor pool with two spas, a restaurant and bar that provided life music, Karaoke and Bingo Nights. Then the full equipped Fitness Center. This one had an Olympic sized indoor pool, a spa, sauna, Steam Room and Ice Bath. Weights, Elipticals, rowers and bikes. There was Joga and other classes offered.

I know for a fact I am missing things but the list goes on as there is a spa that offers massages and facials plus acupuncture. There are several building hosting art events or even woodworking. One needed a bike or car to get around but most zoomed around in golf carts which I learned is a lost of fun and easy to break traffic laws with.

We spend a total of 11 nights here and I barely made a scratch. Part of it is I loved spending time with our friends so we had nice dinners and explored some of Sarasota. But I did use both pools several times as my love for swimming drew me there frequently.

We had a pull thru that accommodated Lucy Lou perfectly. Q24 at 90’ was wonderful with room for Rosalina and the dog yard.

We learned many here buy a yearly property or spot and stay for 9 months and then travel for three. This is for tax purposes. I can see the attraction.

It was sad to say goodby but the West was calling us as we are not finished yet of course. But great memories were made ♥️

Oh and I did visit the Ringling Museum and the Ca’ d’Zan (House of John) Villa.

The villa was impressive but the opulence of it all was something else. Not a house I would have felt at home with but indeed of the style of the roaring 20’s before the stock market crash. Neither Maple or John lived in the house (seasonal) very long before both passed away and ending up in debt when the Great Depression hit. The estate went to the State of Florida who spend 3 years in court fighting of debtors who wanted a piece.

Now the Circus Museum was a different matter to me. I grew up loving the circus and the memories the displays brought back was magical, nostalgic and at times a bit sad for what has been lost. Today’s youth have no idea what magic happened when the circus arrived in town. No movie in a theater will ever compare, nor a musical or theater play. It was a total immersion in sound, feel, taste and smell and too that of with incredible artists it was unbeatable.

Florida - Angels In Unexpected Places

We aimed Lucy to Sarasota FL so Ron could reconnect with friends from his early 20’s, when they all lived in Fairbanks AK.

To me those meetups this year are always interesting as of course they are all strangers to me. I am just the sidekick who thinks I get to sit back and relax and watch the reconnection being made.

At each meetup, however, I was embraced with kindness and made felt included even if that wasn’t a necessity at all.

This time however it was surprisingly and actually shocking to me how very different it turned out.

The moment I met Nancy and Denny I felt like we had known each other for centuries. The similarities between Nancy and I was magical as our personalities felt like we were talking to our twin, identical not in looks but by character. I admit it fascinated me to no end how in sync we were. On the other hand, Denny was the person who had this peace and the aura of an old wise soul about him and one wanted to just sit and talk for hours.

Our connection was so strong that after our initial stay of 4 nights we booked to stay one more week after our trip to Naples. I found family and didn’t want to say goodby to soon.

God has such an intricate way in placing people in our path at the times we need it most. Our healing started when we bought Lucy and launched our adventures. Now, we were hurt and in pain and healing came slow but it came by humans that crossed our paths in places we least expected it. Each one of you I call Angels, as you brought kindness, laughter, hope, compassion and empathy which was what we needed.

It took a big leap of faith for what Ron and I did almost 2 years ago now. I know many called us crazy, but it literally was about saving our life’s. It was a Hail Mary with nothing to loose and it payed of and it opened my heart again and returned my love towards fellow humans.

I could start by listing every name that slowly chipped away on my wall but those who did know as I made a blog post in one form or another about all of you.

You all reminded me slowly on who I was and what I had lost and it all came to a close when I met Nancy and Denny. I knew when we met I had come full circle and that I am once again whole. I still carry pain but in the end that made me stronger as I learned I will never let that happen to me again. No more handing control over to others that aim to hurt.

So Nancy and Denny are Angels and I am beyond grateful our paths crossed ♥️

Always sisters at heart, and I sure love my sisterhood!
