Today we drove from Bossier City, LA to a campground on Lake Lewisville in TX. A what we thought be an easy 3 hour drive turned into a 7 hour ordeal. I tell you all this time, even prior to today I felt this trip to Texas was cursed or God wanted us to no head this way…. Not sure what but every obstacle we could think of popped up.
It started with us not being able to find a campground, we looked for several weeks and we struck out over and over. Then we finally found one that had an opening but it came with a steep price.
But I beyond wanted to see a beloved friend that is only in this country for a short visit and I didn’t want to miss seeing them.
Now the drive started out in rain once we left the Casino parking lot and that’s when it started getting sad on I-20. We saw up to 6 accidents. Many cars in ditches and one even over turned. Now I felt Rosalina Aqua-planning several times and I was wondering if that was that cause for some of the incidents. To know to never step on breaks but to glide through is a must but not always the reaction people have.
We stopped at a small rest stop for lunch and that’s when our first hiccup happened. The door into and out of Lucy would not unlock. The dead bolt was jammed closed and our 30 min stop turned into 1 1/2 hours with still no way to use that door. Now Ron and I can use the cockpit doors, and Oliver is small enough to carry but Keetna had absolutely no way to get out! We decided to push on so we could arrive and Ron could get working on it with some more heavy tools.
Well if only that had been it but no. We were slowed down a lot more by traffic (I mean who really is all out and about on Christmas Eve???). Well kidding aside we finally made it and there it became more tricky. We received bad instruction on where to drop Lou so we ended up back tracking and once we found the lot to unhook quick and get to our site 47. We arrive and we tried to line up Lucy with the hookups. This made us miscalculate the concrete bump in the back with ended up being a bad position for our stabilizers. One of our snap pads, including the original pads broke off. The site was so steep that the front tires came off the ground by a foot.
By then my nerves were pretty shut and I called the office asking for another spot. Well they said none were available even thought I was looking at an almost empty campground. She said she will call me back. While I was trying to get us a new spot Ron was busy working on the door and poor Keetna still had no potty break for almost 7 hours!
Well, she finally called me back and we got a new site (43), still sloped but not as steep. Now the roads in the Park were potholed and not fun to navigate which I could stomach but not for the price we are paying…. -plus of course I was getting pretty grouchy by then.
My husband came through on the door after we parked, tried to level and got the slides out. Our door works now to open and close at least which was the greatest relief to us as Keetna was finally, after 7 1/2 hours able to go outside. Darn how lucky are we that he has such a strong bladder? Poor babe.
Then came hicup number three. Our new site is nestled into trees and that translates into our Starlink being obstructed and we are without our satellite internet for the week.
We had our 3 pm coffee and cake at 6 pm, and finally a dinner of cheese and crackers and some leftovers at 7 pm. We are tired but also know while it was a frustrating day it was worse for all those cars we passed that had crashed today.
We are here and in a couple of days I will see my friends, possibly some family and all will be good. I hope!
Frohe Weihnachten 🎄 and a happy Christmas Eve.
