What a beautiful area Lake Marion is. The largest body of water inside the state of South Carolina and it borders 5 Counties, included is the Santee National Wildlife Refuge as well as the Santee State Park.
The campground we stayed at had spacious sites and access roads and our pull thru site was wonderful. There are a lot of activities as in games for those interested plus two pools and a lazy river, however they were closed for the season. There is a swim beach and boat ramp, as well as a wonderful restaurant that serves fresh fish straight from the lake.
We spend 5 nights here and they were relaxing and peaceful. We caught up on work as well as cleaning and laundry. I rode my bike a bit and we toured the Indian Mound and learned about the Swamp Fox.
I also found out that just across the bridge was a place called the Venomous Serpent Center. Since my husband is very fascinated by snakes, I decided to suprise him and this one was a wonderful success. The education we received was amazing and we learned how they use the venom from the snakes they have, from all around the world, for research in the medical field. We learned that Brasil and Germany are already treating breast cancer with a success rate. No chemo or radiation. Just venom from one of the snakes they have. Also heart disease. Of course in the US, where the research is also done, the FDA is the road block.
Over all if one is in this area of the country in an RV we loved the Resort and we loved all the outings we were able to do. From history, to nature to education/science. All within 15 min or less.
