We arrived at our daughters house around 11 yesterday, after a tad of stressful maneuvering through SAT traffic. Seeing Niki, her pup Tango and the kittens was pure heaven. Bella and Boo were thrilled as they finally got to depart Lucy and move into a bedroom in Niki’s house for now.
We unloaded Rosalina, since she had been stuffed full while being in the trailer and if anyone was watching us they would have possible been worried who was moving in. Several computers and ‘some’ guns we didn’t want to have the movers bring down here.
Then we focused on introducing first Mishka and Tango. Niki thought they would be good with each other as she felt they had similar energy and I beyond trust Niki’s judgment as she is magic when it comes to any animal.
I got a ‘tad’ anxious but the initial meet and greet went well. Tango wanted to kiss and lick Mishka’s face, which she in return wasn’t a big fan off but she pretty much ignored it. Mishka just prefers to be left alone. We then offered them both a break by putting Mishka in the sunroom, and leaving Tango in the living room.
We realized time was running out as we wanted to get to the JBSA Lackland RV Family Campground before 15:00 as this is when they close on Sundays, unfortunately we had to get across town and that was another 35 min drive through more crazy traffic for Lucy. However, we also needed to get to the visitor center first and get our passes to get on the base. We ended up driving first to one that has been permanently closed, but Niki got us to the next one which did the trick. By then it was 15:09 and we lost our opening. We hoped we could get Lucy set up in the overflow lot but after a nice drive through some of the base even that was not accessible.
By then Captain Ron was getting very exhausted as we hadn’t had anything to eat since we left Lincoln in the morning. But before we could think of getting food we had to drive Lucy all the way back to Niki’s neighborhood while hoping her neighbors would be okay to have her parked on the street for the night. This turned out to be no problem however as she has most wonderful neighbors who even offered to have us park her next to their house but let’s just say Lucy is a tad to big to park in any driveway in the area we were in.
Once she was parked Niki went inside and shortly after came out with a kind of shocked face. I asked her what was wrong and she said that when she opened the front door Mishka was standing there greeting her. Which made her think where is Tango? She found Tango sleeping in the sunroom. So our guess is Mishka pushed open that door somehow while we were gone and the two just finished up their own meet and greet and it seems they did it really well as both were fine. This gave my daughter the confidence to move on to pup number 2, Oliver. Our thinking was that Keetna will be the easiest as Tango already met him when he was younger. Oliver of course is our fearful babe that gets scared of his own shadow. He initially growled at sweet Tango so we put him in the sunroom to chill while we sat at the other side of the Glassdoor. And who would have guessed, Oliver also pushed open the door and since he is kind of itty bitty the issue must be with the latch 😂. Well he came out and tried to find refuge in our laps which we refused. Tango was just laying down resting and showed no interest of Oliver so once again it was an easy transition as Oliver realized he was in no danger. So within a short time all 3 pups were doing fine. Niki had called in dinner (Italian) and I was able to get the deodorant I was wearing of diesel fuel and cat pee of me in a long long hot shower. Darn it felt heavenly. Followed this by a glass or two of wine, yummy food and most wonderful in-depth conversations with Niki I felt human again. To release the stress of the last few weeks, but kind of also of the last 3 years is really hard to put into words.
I am so very glad we made it here and the next aim will be to get Lucy to JBSA Lackland. Then once she is settled we can focus on dealing with all the items that were moved to Niki from our old house. Let’s just say her precious house is overflowing with our ‘stuff’.
I am so glad to hear everything is going well with the furrbabies and you are enjoying some family time. ❤️
